REGISTRATION OF INDIAN SHIP

For a ship registered in India, the ship is owned by

A citizen of India
A company or a body established or under any central or state act which has its principal place of business in India or
A co-operative society which is registered or deemed to be registered under the co-operative societies act
Company should be registered with mmd and dgs

The owner or agent shall apply for the name approval proposed for the ship to the port of registrar on prescribed format a
A copy of previous certificate of registry  for second hand vessel and a copy of ships details from the builder for a new vessel
A copy of memorandum and article of association of the company
Vessel of 25 years and above need technical clearance
Three names in Hindi and English to be suggested
Along with the application for allotment of name ,official number and call sign combined with the application for allotment of mmsi number will be made by the owner through the registrar to dgs

Carving and marking note
Application for carving and marking note on letter head of the company
Approved tonnage certificate issued by flag or state

Signing of declaration of ownership
Declaration of ownership on prescribed form
To be signed before principal officer/authorised person

Survey of carving and marking on ship
Application of survey of carving and marking onboard ship
Carving and marking survey of vessel will be done by mmd or class surveyor
Certificate of survey,

The registrar shall issue to owner a carving and marking note, which shall be returned to registrar after the carving and marking have been carried out and certified by the surveyor

Permanent or provisional registry
An application to the office of the registrar of indian ships with form as per check list
Declaration of ownership, Original board resolution for a company or signed by all the partners for the partnership firm
Builder’s certificate
Instrument of sale
Original carving & marking duly verified by the surveyor, certificate of survey

A provisional certificate of registry issued to the vessel for six months, if the vessel is abroad or if the documents are not complete as per the requirement

On compleation of preliminaries of registry the registrar shall enter the following particulars
Name of port and where she belongs
The ship identification number
The particular respecting her origin stated in declaration of ownership
The name and description of ships registered owner/owners and the number of shares owned by them

On registry the registrar shall retain following
The surveyors certificate and the builders certificate
Any instrument of sale
All declaration of ownership
Compleation of above, registrar issues certificate of registry containing particulars entered in the register book with name of the master

Issuance of certificate of survey/certificate of registry does not entitle the vessel to ply, unless she has the required statutory certificate and valued document
